Boot Hill

Boot Hill, Virginia City Montana

This is a picture of the resting place of 5 outlaws that were hanged in Virginia City during the goldrush in the 1860’s. No other towns folk wanted to buried by them so the rest of the city cemetery is about a half mile away.

Taking the picture I was having a hard time getting all 5 tombstones in one shot, plus the sunset backlit the scene so much that getting a shot with the names on the tombstones was near impossible. Finally backing part way down the hill I was not only able to get all 5 tones in one shot but the low angle blocked out nearby buildings and created a great silhouette effect against the setting sun.
